FAQ - Refillable Cartridges
Q:
Are you telling me that the cartridge set comes pre-filled too? I don't see that info on line, and that could sell more for you, I'm sure... I assume that you need to remove the cartridges to refill them, and that's probably why you include two sets?
Prefilled cartridges but there is a problem with ink leaking out from the cartridges in the winter during a hard freeze. The ink is water based and when the ink become ice, it will expand and cause damage to the cartridge at around 4 degree below zero. I do not ship them in the extreme cold until the weather is above freezing.
1. Each time a chip reset takes place, even if it is for just one cartridge, the printer will perform an auto head clean. This is like the printer found a new cartridge and it wants to charge the print head with ink. The pump inside the printer will siphon ink from all the cartridges to remove air that might have entered the print head, the result is that a lot of ink ended up in the waste ink pad and not on paper. To reduce ink waste, remove the entire set of cartridges when one cartridge goes empty. Install a set already filled with ink and chips set to full. You can do this with my refillable cartridges when you have a second set of cartridges on hand. Have one set filled and chips set to full and ready for use when you need them. In stead of filling cartridges when you are in the middle of a print project, you simply swap out the set of cartridges and continue to print. Refill the cartridges and reset the chips later when you are not printing.
*Although the chip will auto reset, but the cartridges will have to be filled so the actual ink level will be full. Always monitor the ink level when a print is initiated. But sometimes the ink monitor will not work properly, i.e. Windows Vista / R800. However, the printer will warn you of low ink level when the chip tells the printer it is empty. If you start with a full set of cartridges and the chips are set to full, you will always have ink in the cartridges when one chip goes empty. These cartridges can hold 18 ml. The original Epson cartridge holds 14 ml.
2. Once in a while you want to clean the print head, clean the cleaning pad under the cleaning station ( the pad the print head rest on when the printer is not in use ) The second set of cartridges can be used for head cleaning. For instructions go to How to clean print head page
